Ditch the rings, USOC tells Pa. school district

The U.S. Olympic Committee has told a school district in eastern Pennsylvania it must change its crest, the Hawley, Pennsylvania, News Eagle reported. The committee objected to the use of the five Olympic rings in the crest of the Wallenpaupack Area School District, according to the newspaper. School Superintendent Michael Silsby told the newspaper the committee has a legitimate concern and “we do have to come up with a plan of phasing it out.” The crest, which is used throughout the district on employee badges, handbooks and the like, will be phased out gradually to cut down on replacement costs, the News Eagle reported.
