BALTIMORE — Relatives are identifying the man injured after an encounter with four Baltimore police officers as 25-year-old Freddie Gray.
Gray’s mother, Gloria Darden, said Tuesday that her son has several broken vertebrae and is undergoing surgery for his injuries. Darden says her son’s spine is injured in two separate areas.
Gray is in critical condition at Shock Trauma.
Gray’s uncle, Robert Darden, says doctors are monitoring his nephew’s brain function, and that he is currently on a machine to help him breathe.
Gray was stopped by Baltimore police on Sunday morning. Following an encounter with four officers, Gray was rushed to the hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez said Monday the incident is under investigation.
