Merritt Properties LLC‘s plans for redevelopment at its Canton Crossing fitness club include a seven story extension and possibly an office building in the second phase of the project.
The company is set to unveil plans for a Canton Crossing redevelopment to the Urban Design and Architecture Review Panel on Thursday. The first phase of the project involves building a seven-story parking garage, with about 300 spaces, on the site of the current outdoor pool. It will also include room for the fitness club to expand, an indoor pool on the first level and a new outdoor pool on the seventh level.
“We’re anticipating once we get the permit and can start we’re anticipating that it should take about a year [to build] and the club will remain open the entire time,” said Missy Teague, a spokeswoman for the company.
Once phase one is complete, Merritt will assess the market and if conditions are favorable they want to build an office building on the current parking lot in front of the club. Teague said the office building is still “conceptual” but they foresee the building having 12,000 square feet of retail on the first floor and about 100,000 square feet of office.
“But again all of this is market dependent and could change,” Teague said.
