Staff members of The Daily Record have won seven awards in the annual editorial contest organized by the Maryland | Delaware | DC Press Association.
The awards included a Best of Show award for Maximilian Franz, the newspaper’s chief photographer, for his illustration “The State of Old Bay.”
The awards, announced Friday, were for print and online work completed in 2014. The Daily Record’s winners:
- Art or Illustrations: First Place and Best of Show – The state of Old Bay – Maximilian Franz
- Online Commentary or Blog: First Place – Eye on Annapolis blog – Bryan P. Sears
- Environmental Reporting: First Place – Lead in a different light – Danny Jacobs
- Local Column: Critical Thinking: First Place – Here there be dragons – Barbara Grzincic
- General News Photo: Second Place – Capitol at night – Maximilian Franz
- Editorial: Second Place – Not-so-open meetings – Barbara Grzincic
- Education Reporting: Second Place – The second-year itch – Lauren Kirkwood
Winners were celebrated at an awards lunch Friday — an event The Daily Record missed because it pulled its entire staff back into Baltimore to report on developments in the death of Freddie Gray.
