Mount Saint Mary College has appointed a longtime administrator at Loyola University, Maryland, as its new vice president of academic affairs.

Dr. Ilona McGuiness will oversee eight academic areas and 85 full-time faculty members at the Newburgh, N.Y., school. She had served for many years as the dean of first-year students and academic services at Loyola.

As a tenured associate professor of writing, McGuiness has also directed Loyola’s honors program and taught composition and major-level non-fiction prose courses. At Loyola, she was recognized with numerous awards for her teaching, including the Educator for Life Award and the Distinguished Teacher of the Year.
