Gov. Larry Hogan has tapped Sean Powell to be the new head of the state Department of Assessments and Taxation.
Since 2003 Powell has served as the supervisor of assessments for St. Mary’s County, where he administered real property assessments. He also worked served as a branch officer for County First Bank, marketing manager and ATM Coordinator for Community Bank of Tri-County in Waldorf and for First National Bank of St. Mary’s in Leonardtown.
Powell, a resident of Hollywood, Maryland, completed a three-year bank management program at the Maryland Bankers Association Bankers School in Annapolis. He also currently serves as director of football operations and assistant head coach at Great Mills High School.
“I am confident Sean Powell will further advance SDAT’s mission of promoting fairness in taxation for Maryland property owners,” Hogan said in a statement released as he continues to undergo chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. “Under my administration, SDAT will continue to explore programs that offer property tax relief and business services for Maryland’s citizens.”
