Under Armour announced today that  former Nike and current Dallas Mavericks’ executive Terdema L. Ussery II will join the Baltimore-based sports apparel and fitness company as president, global sports categories, effective Sept. 14.

Ussery will oversee category management across all key brand and business units around the world to drive authenticity and connectivity with consumers, the company said in its announcement.

“Terdema is a highly respected leader with an extraordinary reputation and track record of success,” said Kevin Plank, CEO and Founder of Under Armour. “Under Armour is a global growth company and with the addition of Terdema to our team we have one of the best in the business helping to drive the brand forward.”

Ussery has served as the president and CEO of the National Basketball Association’s Dallas Mavericks for the past 18 years. Under his direction, the Mavericks more than tripled their revenue and exponentially increased their media and digital footprint by establishing new and expanding existing media partnerships across multiple platforms, Under Armour said. The Mavericks’ growth parallels that of the entire NBA over that period.

Previously,  Ussery was president of Nike Sports Management, overseeing the marketing, advertising and branding of the company’s most elite athletes and securing notable brand partnerships.

He will work in Baltimore, the company said.
