As executive director at the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, part of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Carlton A. Curry oversees the safe practice of physical therapy among 7,800 professionals in the state.
Curry, 40, also engages emerging professionals by highlighting ethical considerations and challenges by visiting academic programs in Maryland.
“It is my hope that my professional work has led to safe, ethical practice of health care,” he said.
Curry also mentors young people and emerging leaders, particularly self-identified LGBT young adults.
In Curry’s current role, he also provides internship opportunities to students interested in public health, public service and the law.
He also volunteers and occasionally teaches at Baltimore Aikido, where he works to integrate conflict resolution and ethical engagement with martial arts training.
