vCalc LLC

VCalc wants to make math a lot easier for the world.

Using an approach similar to Wikipedia, is a place where people worldwide are collaborating to create simple and free calculators for anyone to use on the Internet and on mobile devices.

The site now offers more than 7,000 free calculators to assist people at work, home, school and play, according to President and CEO Kurt Heckman.

The company now has 12 partner universities, including one in Kenya. Partner universities incorporate vCalc LLC into lessons and help to verify content, he said.

In Maryland, St. Mary’s College, Morgan State University and Frostburg University are partnering with the firm.

There currently are users in 110 countries.

The company also is working with high-school students to teach them how to use the program and has launched a contest with a $1,000 cash prize for students who enter their own equations.

“We think we’re going to change the world,” Heckman said.
