Law blog roundup welcomes the justices back

Welcome to Monday, the first day of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015-2016 session.

In honor of the start of the justices’ October 2015 term, here’s a short quiz to test your knowledge of high-court history (no checking search engines before stating your responses, please):

1) Justice Harry Blackmun was President Nixon’s third choice for the high court. Name Nixon’s first two nominees for the seat, both of whom were rejected by the U.S. Senate.

2) Who was the most recent U.S. president to make no nominations to the Supreme Court?

3) Justice Anthony Kennedy was President Reagan’s third choice for the Supreme Court. Name Reagan’s first two nominees for the seat, one of whom asked the president to withdraw the nomination.

4) Name two former Supreme Court justices (one federal, one state) who played in the National Football League.
