Startup Maryland recently spent three weeks traversing the state in a big yellow bus (well, technically an RV) collecting video pitches from entrepreneurs and emerging companies.
Now, the judging has begun.
The nonprofit has posted 138 video pitches on its YouTube channel, and viewers can now vote with their eyes to select three “Fan Favorite” companies. The three videos with the most views as of noon on Nov. 6 will be declared the winners.
But that’s not all: at the same time, a panel of angel and venture-capital investors and experienced entrepreneurs will choose eight videos to be the “Great 8 Finalists.” Those companies will be invited to make a live pitch at next month’s TEDCO Entrepreneurship Expo in November.
Up to two of those finalists will then be chosen to pitch for a $100,000 investment from TEDCO’s Technology Commercialization Fund or Cybersecurity Innovation Fund, according to Startup Maryland.
“Once again, the startup ecosystem in Maryland shines bright,” Startup Maryland Founder Mike Binko said in a news release. “Now that the dust has settled from our whirlwind tour around the state, the diversity of industries/innovations and the passion embodied in our entrepreneurs show the spirit of free enterprise is beaming brightly in the Old Line State.”
