Prince George’s County County Executive Rushern Baker III has been named one of Governing magazine’s public officials of the year for 2015.
Governing announced its nine leaders in state and local government from across this country on Tuesday for this year’s award.
Baker, who was first elected in 2010 and reelected in 2014, was praised for his leadership, the decline in crime in Prince George’s County since he came into office and improvements in economic development. The publication cited a 40 percent decrease in homicides under Baker and $6 billion generated through commercial investments in a press release announcing the award recipients.
Now in its 24th year, Governing’s Public Officials of the Year program honors leaders from state, city and county government who exemplify the publication’s ideals of public service.
