The first day of any 90-day Maryland General Assembly session is largely ceremonial and largely bipartisan.
Hey, it’s the first day so we’re all friends, right? At least until the long knives come out next week on a few veto overrides.
In keeping with that spirit in advance of what could be a contentious session, Gov. Larry Hogan made the traditional governor’s visit to the House and Senate chambers to welcome the lawmakers back to the capital and his message sounded a little like a notable commercial for an area law office.
“The lieutenant governor and I are very much looking forward to working with all of you from both sides of the aisle to try and continue to make some progress here and represent the people of Maryland. I want you to know I’m always available to you. Pick up the phone and let us know what you want to talk about.”
In other words, If you have a phone, you have a governor.
