Already stacked with some of the best athletes in the country, Under Armour’s roster is getting another heavyweight with the addition of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The Baltimore sportswear brand announced a “long-term partnership” with the WWE star and actor on Monday. Johnson will be creating a range of products, including footwear, apparel and will be a part of Under Armour’s Connected Fitness platform, specifically the new HealthBox and Record applications. Under Armour will also develop products inspired by Johnson’s films.
The first of those product capsules will include a Rock-inspired backpack and duffle bag that will launch on UA.com and be available in select stores in the next few weeks, Under Armour said in a statement.
On Instagram, Johnson added that he’s working with Under Armour to create “innovative swimwear and cool signature rash guards I’ll be saving lives in, while trying not to trip when running in our big action comedy ‘Baywatch.'” He added that “Signature Hobbs” and “Fast & Furious 8” gear is also in the works.
After winning seven WWE championships, Johnson went on to become one of the top grossing actors in Hollywood. He has a massive social media following, including 40.7 million followers on Instagram. His post on Monday announcing his partnership with Under Armour had more than 91,000 likes in less than 30 minutes after it was posted.
“This deal’s been years in the making and as you can now see it’s a game changer and never been done in Hollywood. And to me, the most motivating factor of this whole thing is it will always come down to me and all of you ’round the world, waking up every morning, punching that clock and putting in the hard work with our own two hands,” he wrote in the Instagram post.
