Under Armour signs first multi-year deal with American soccer club

Under Armour will be developing kits for the New York Cosmos starting with the team’s 2016 season, the Baltimore athletic apparel company announced Thursday. The company signed a “multi-year” partnership with the soccer team, a first for Under Armour in the U.S.

The brand will provide competition, training, sideline, and travel gear and apparel the athletes can wear on and off the field, said Under Armour in a statement.

The new kits will be unveiled at the Under Armour Brand House in New York City on March 16.

“We are very excited about this new alliance with Under Armour,” said New York Cosmos Chief Operating Officer, Erik Stover, in a statement. “We share many of the same brand values, including ambition and innovation. Under Armour is one of the fastest growing performance brands in the world and we can’t wait to share our new kit with our fans.”

While this is the brand’s first deal with a U.S. soccer team, it isn’t the brand’s first venture in the sport. Under Armour already outfits international soccer clubs including Tottenham Hotspur F.C., São Paulo FC, Colo-Colo and Cruz Azul and players including Memphis Depay of Manchester United, Granit Xhaka of Borussia Mönchengladbach and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup winners Lauren Holiday and Kelley O’Hara. Last year, the brand launched its first soccer campaign, “Slay Your Next Giant.”
