Would you like bacon on your doughnut?

If the answer is yes, you’re in luck as a North Carolina doughnut franchise has come to Maryland to offer just that. Duck Donuts, which began in Kitty Hawk, N.C., in 2007, now has nearly 30 locations along the East Coast, including one in Rockville, which opened Thursday.

Duck Donuts sells made-to-order doughnuts with a variety of ways to customizing options from the basic to the original. You can get chocolate frosting with sprinkles or peanut butter frosting with bacon on top. Each doughnut has about 310 calories, the company said.

Duck Donuts was founded by Russell A. DiGilio, who felt that something was missing in the Outer Banks while on vacation with his family — doughnuts!

“When it comes to donuts, everyone knows that it’s true, there is nothing like a freshly made, warm donut or two or three, along with a good, piping-hot cup of coffee,” says DiGilio on the company website.

Hard to argue with that.

Great, but Baltimore native and my pal Mike Roslan has been making maple bacon and many other delicious varieties of donuts at Diablo Donuts for some time now.

  2. Absolutely fabulous donuts. I have lived on the Outer Banks for 28 years and I think Duck Donuts ranks up there with the lighthouses!
