For only the sixth time in its 125-year history, Sheppard Pratt Health System is getting a new president and CEO.
Dr. Harsh K. Trivedi will assume the leadership of the system on July 1, taking over for Steven S. Sharfstein, who has held the role for nearly 25 years, Sheppard Pratt announced late Monday.
Sharfstein will serve as president emeritus of Sheppard Pratt and practice clinical psychiatry.
Trivedi, who is currently the CEO of Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, has a background in both psychiatry and business; he earned his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City and his MBA from the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee.
Trivedi said in a statement that he was deeply honored to lead Sheppard Pratt, which he called a “venerable, mission-oriented institution.”
Sharfstein gave Trivedi his endorsement, saying in a statement that he was absolutely the right person for the job and would bring new energy and vision to the health system.
Sheppard Pratt provides mental health, addition treatment and special education services.
