UPPER MARLBORO — Authorities in Prince George’s County have ordered a dozen area strip clubs to shut down after a yearlong battle between the county and the businesses over their locations and new, stricter zoning rules.
Officials made the announcement Wednesday. The clubs were issued letters from the county’s Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement saying they will face citations and fines if they are not closed by 5 p.m. Friday.
The county won the lengthy fight against the clubs in court last week. Some residents had complained about traffic and noise from the clubs.
County spokeswoman Susan Hubbard says the clubs that the county is pushing to close are in residential or commercial areas.
Officials say the county’s new rules restrict adult entertainment clubs to light industrial, warehouse areas.
