Radisson opens downtown Baltimore location

Radisson Hotels has opened a new location in downtown Baltimore, the hotelier announced Tuesday.

Located on 101 W. Fayette Street, about a half-mile from the Inner Harbor, the hotel has 323 rooms and features Radisson’s signature Business Class rooms that includes breakfast. For meeting and events, the hotel has 18,500 square feet of meeting space that can accommodate up to 1,500 people and is equipped with conference technology.

“As we continue to grow our footprint across the Americas, we are proud to welcome the Radisson Hotel Baltimore Downtown-Inner Harbor to our portfolio,” said Javier Rosenberg, chief operating officer for the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Americas. “The opening of this hotel reinforces our commitment to expanding the Radisson brand in key downtown locations and delivering exceptional experiences for our guests.”

Hotel amenities include a rooftop swimming pool, free Wi-Fi, business center with printing and copying services and a 24-hour fitness center. Guests can also use Radisson’s iConcierge app to order room service, find out about local attractions and check out.

Radisson is entering downtown Baltimore’s hotel market at a time when the city is trying to ramp up its hotel occupancy since last year’s riots following Freddie Gray’s death brought down hotel occupancy by 5 to 7 percent.

So far, hotel occupancy is up this year. The year to date occupancy is up by 1.4 percent in 2016 compared to all of 2015, according to STR, a data and analytics specialist that tracks hotel occupancy data. Specifically, the average occupancy rate this year so far is 63.5 percent, compared to 62.6 percent last year. Occupancy in April was up 5.2 percent this year compared to last April. There are just over 1 million hotel rooms available in Baltimore as of April, about 750,000 of which were booked. Hotel revenue year to date is up about 4 percent as of April.
