Top designer returns to Under Armour after defection to Nike

After leaving Under Armour for its rival Nike earlier this year, Dave Dombrow is coming back to Baltimore.

News broke in March that the top designer of some of Under Armour’s most popular shoes was leaving.  On Thursday, Under Armour announced that Dombrow, who was formerly senior vice president of creative footwear and accessories, will come back as the company’s chief design officer starting Aug. 1.

At Under Armour, Dombrow helped develop signature products for Stephen Curry and Cam Newton as well as the UA SpeedForm Apollo. He initially joined the company in 2010 and was in charge of all footwear and accessory design. Dombrow previously worked for Puma and was a designer for Nike from 2000 to 2003.

In his new role, Dombrow will oversee the design of Under Armour’s entire collection of footwear, apparel and accessories.

“I continue to be humbled and amazed by what we have built together, fueled by the core commitment to innovation and design, as well as the entrepreneurial drive to make all athletes better,” said Dombrow. “I can’t wait to help create our next chapter.”
