Md. Racing Commission approves sale of Rosecroft Raceway

The Maryland Racing Commission has approved the Stronach Group’s purchase of Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George’s County.

The Baltimore Sun reports the commission voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve the sale.

With the purchase from Penn National Gaming, Stronach will add to a collection of Maryland tracks which already includes Pimlico Race Course and Laurel Park.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

Stronach officials say in a statement that they look forward to working at the 67-year-old Fort Washington track, as well as expanding the business.

They also they’re also interested in growing standardbred racing, which has a storied history in the state.

Stronach expects to soon begin upgrading the track.

Rosecroft Raceway is one of Maryland’s two harness racing courses. The other is Ocean Downs in Ocean City.
