ELLICOTT CITY — Howard County officials say some buildings damaged during flooding in Ellicott City are in danger of collapsing and are not safe for anyone to enter.
County Executive Allan Kittleman said at a news conference Wednesday that two buildings were found to be structurally unsafe during inspections that morning. Kittleman says he learned about the danger just as residents of the Main Street homes were to be escorted into the structures to retrieve essential items.
Kittleman says the buildings will have to be demolished. He said he didn’t know how long that would take. Officials say 135 buildings have been evaluated.
Two people were killed when the town took on 6.5 inches of water within hours Saturday night.
