Diyz LLC, a mobile app firm based in Towson, recently launched its free home improvement help app for iOS and Android devices.

Called Diyz and pronounced “dee-eye-wise,” as a play on the DIY acronym for do-it-yourself projects, the app provides instructions accompanied by tutorial videos, suggestions for tool purchases, and the option to chat by video with a contractor who can see projects and give advice.

To identify its target market, Diyz cited research by Venveo that said 88 percent of do-it-yourselfers watch how-to videos for their projects, while 41 percent consider some home projects to be beyond their own skill levels.

For now speaking to a contractor through the app is free, but the price will change to $10 for the first 10 minutes and $1 for each additional minute.
