Maryland board to consider contract for veterans home

ANNAPOLIS — A Maryland board is scheduled to consider a $35 million contract extension to prevent any disruption of service at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in St. Mary’s County.

The Board of Public Works is set to take up the one-year renewal contract at its meeting on Wednesday in Annapolis.

The extension is needed to allow time to resolve an appeal of a new contract award to HMR of Maryland. Charlotte Hall Nursing filed a protest against the award earlier this year, followed by a second protest.

The Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs denied both protests in October. But an appeal was filed with the Maryland State Board of Contract Appeals.

The home in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, was established in 1984 to provide long-term assisted living and skilled nursing services.
