Baltimore in the wake of the death of Freddie Gray will be the subject of an upcoming HBO documentary titled, “For the Love of Baltimore.”
The Baltimore Sun reports that the cable channel announced the documentary over the weekend on the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles.
HBO says in a statement that the production “explores a city divided” and is “told through the journeys of local activists, police officers, community residents and gang affiliates.”
Actress Sonja Sohn, who played Detective Shakima Greggs on “The Wire,” will direct the film. Sohn was in Baltimore in 2015 following the death of Gray conducting classes with residents in the neighborhood where much of the civil unrest following Gray’s death took place.
The film will debut sometime this year.
