Last week, we brought you word that GBMC’s Laura Clary was named a finalist in “The Doctors” and Prevention Magazine’s search for “The Most Amazing Nurse in America.”
On Friday, the television program and magazine announced that Clary won the competition.
Clary works at the hospital as a sexual assault forensic examination nurse, caring for victims of sexual assault, child abuse, rape, human trafficking, intimate partner violence and domestic violence.
“I am truly honored and humbled with this recognition. In my eyes, all of my fellow finalists were worthy of this award,” said Clary. “’I’ve got a fantastic team behind me and work with fantastic people. Our nurses exemplify what it means to put our patients first, providing care with empathy and expertise.”
As the head of GBMC’s SAFE unit, Clary coordinates nurses and victim advocates to be available 24/7 to respond to victims as they come into the hospital on what Clary described in a previous story as “the worst day of their lives.”
Clary also chairs the Baltimore County Sexual Assault Response Team is a member of the Child Abuse Medical Providers of Maryland and gives lectures at Baltimore schools about sexual assault and domestic violence awareness.
As the winner of a nationwide competition, Clary won a trip to Iceland.
