A Maryland-based weather data firm has upgraded the weather forecast services it produces with a partner’s technology.

Earth Networks Inc., of Germantown, and Global Weather Corp., of Colorado, said Thursday that the ENCast suite of forecasts will offer new weather variables, improved near-term precipitation forecasting and better detection of severe weather areas.

New forecasts available include potential solar energy production, the temperature of the dew point, heat stress in direct sunlight, snowfall accumulation in a hyperlocal area, ground ice accumulation, and ice on utility wires and tree limbs.

The forecasts are based on Earth Networks’ network of weather stations and lightning sensors, paired with Global Weather’s forecasting technology.
