Chaney Enterprises, a construction supplier in Gambrills, recently completed a new railway and is operating its first train.
The company now offers limestone transported by a new railway at its 520-acre facility on Acton Lane in Waldorf.
The company expects that adding limestone to its product mix will expand its market, especially for construction projects in southern Maryland.
Francis “Hall” Chaney III, president of Chaney enterprises, said in a statement that the addition of the company’s first train means the company can now deliver materials by rail, truck and barge. The railroad also means the company’s truck fleet will endure fewer long hauls.
The company plans to name the 80-car train with its employees and friends at its annual bull roast, set for Oct. 7.
