Dave Mason describes himself as a fierce competitor with an aggressive leadership style who wants Universal Title to transform the real estate settlement and title industry.
“I want to provide an environment for talented people to succeed,” he says. “We spend a lot of time talking about professional and personal growth. I believe that it is personal growth that motivates people to accomplish their goals.”
Mason, CEO since 2014, said revenue has increased 176 percent during his tenure, including a 30 percent increase from 2015 to 2016. Net income has increased 157 percent during his time as CEO.
“Most businesses in our industry are still truly small businesses and have not embraced innovation,” he says. He cited three examples of innovations in his company:
- Developed an 11-person sales team four years ago that is driving growth that he says most of his competitors cannot match.
- Developed a division called MREAssist (My Real Estate Assistant), which provides administrative assistance to real estate agents.
- In the last six years, the company has grown from one to 16 offices from Bel Air to Fredericksburg, Virginia, with more than 60 employees today. “Managing the growth and building the systems and structure to support it has been challenging but rewarding,” Mason says.
Mason stresses employee work-life balance, says Billy Apostolou, a business development and sales associate with Universal Title.
“Many CEOs say the right things, but David’s actions speak for him,” Apostolou said. “We have a strong culture to provide excellent customer service, we take care of our employees and grow as a family.”
