Matthew Doud’s vision for Planit Inc., the advertising firm he co-founded, starts with not being afraid to scare the clients.

“Because if we aren’t willing to challenge the status quo and be decisive, someone else will,” he says.

Doud challenges his team to be legendary – bold, but not reckless – in their work. Business insights should be born from deep brand understanding, he says. The ability to connect activities and measure engagement is vital, so maintaining a digital heart is a mandate for the business, not an option. Having fun, maintaining a positive outlook and keeping a sense of humor are important factors in developing confidence in his team, he says. This confidence breeds passion and allows everyone in the company to realize it is possible to make great things and a great living.

The firm has never lost its risk-taking, startup culture and Doud believes in fostering young, driven people — he’s not reluctant to give them a chance to make a difference at the firm and keeps his door open to allow everyone from interns to senior staff stop by with questions, concerns and new ideas, he says. Having grown up in Baltimore’s advertising community, Doud’s ambition is to bring the Baltimore firm onto the national stage.

Doud is also co-owner of Order & Chaos Coffee. He serves as chairman of the Loyola Blakefield Board of Trustees’ Marketing and Communications Committee and is a member of the Baltimore Museum of Industry’s Board of Trustees.
