Shannon E. Conklin
Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy Reserves, HR Specialist
As a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, Shannon Conklin works in a unit with 60 sailors, 18 of whom she directly oversees. While serving in the military is no small feat, Conklin is currently working on obtaining her Master of Arts in Defense in Strategic Studies, her second post-graduate degree. She earned her MBA in 2010.
Her proudest achievement, Conklin says, is in seeing others succeed. For the past six years, Conklin has helped prepare sailors and officers for selection into the medical community and into officer ranks of the U.S. Navy.
“From late night phone calls to working lunches, together we formulate a plan, repeatedly evaluate progress and accomplish the goal. This is the type of mentorship that lasts a lifetime,” she says.
Her single most significant accomplishment, she says, is when her division won Division of the Year in 2015.
“I am more proud when my entire team succeeds than when I achieve an individual accomplishment,” she says.
