Kacey Wetzel
Director of Outreach and Education
The Chesapeake Bay Trust
When Kacey Wetzel started at the Chesapeake Bay Trust nearly a decade ago as a junior grants administrator, her attention to detail and her passion for the job quickly moved her to excel.
While completing a master’s degree in environmental science and policy at Johns Hopkins University, Wetzel, the current director of outreach and education at the nonprofit, was promoted to a program officer position. She returned to graduate school to earn a certificate in social marketing and public health from the University of South Florida.
She immediately found an application for her newfound expertise in making watershed grant funding more meaningful, according to Chesapeake Bay Trust Executive Director Jana Davis. “She has since become recognized as a regional, if not national, expert on this topic of connection of social marketing to watershed issues,” Davis says.
Wetzel serves as a board member for the D.C. Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology. She’s also a volunteer with Rebels for a Cause Cycling Team and the Anne Arundel County Master Gardeners.
