Baltimore is the third-best city for women in tech, according to a study by SmartAsset, despite a large pay gap between men and women.
The city grew its tech workforce by 36 percent over four years from 2013 to 2016. Women fill 32 percent of tech jobs, the fifth-best rate in the country.
Baltimore also came in third on the list last year, when it finished behind Washington and Kansas City, Missouri. Those cities took the top two spots again this year.
There are some notable differences between Baltimore and the cities ahead of it for women in tech, according to the statistics used by SmartAsset.
For example, Washington fills more of its tech jobs with women than Baltimore. And both cities have a slighter pay gap between men and women.
Women in tech in Baltimore make 86 percent of what men make, according to the study. In Washington, women make 91 percent of what men make. Kansas City actually flips the script, and women make 102 percent of what men in tech make.
Philadelphia and Albuquerque, New Mexico, rounded out the top five on SmartAsset’s list.
