Y in Central Maryland opens new Head Start center in east Baltimore

On Monday, a group of young Baltimoreans helped Mayor Catherine Pugh and the Y in Central Maryland officially open the new Y Head Start Center, a new state-of-the-art early learning center at the former site of Pleasant View Day Care Center in east Baltimore.

The 17,000-square-foot facility with serve up to 80 east Baltimore families using HATCH technology to update the children’s educational experience and help teachers to assess progress.

Each classroom is also equipped with interactive displays and whiteboard, two iStart smart computers and classroom tablets.

The Y Head Start program has been operating in central Maryland for 33 years and today serves more than 1,900 young children and families.
