Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO

As the first female president of the Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO, a coalition of more than 500 local unions representing some 350,000 workers, Donna Edwards is considered a trailblazer.

In 2012, in fact, the Maryland Democratic Party honored the Cumberland native with the first Barbara A. Mikulski Trail Blazing Award for her work as a labor leader, social worker and pioneer among women leaders.

A graduate of the Harvard University Labor Studies Program, Edwards earned her M.S.W. from the University of Maryland. She is the long-time vice president of Community Services of Central Maryland.
