Wendy Elover has been a businesswoman since she took over a local appliance parts store in 1989. And as her business career flourished, her philanthropic activities multiplied.

Over the decades, Elover has been involved with numerous charities and nonprofits, among them the MDL Give A Book Program she started 16 years ago to provide free personalized books to children in Head Start programs.

Last year, when she turned 50, Elover created the “Pay it Forward to 50 Project,” asking people to donate to a charitable fund instead of giving her a gift.
