Barry Herman

Partner, Intellectual Property Litigation
Womble Bond Dickinson

Barry Herman routinely handles the most stressful high stakes situations with grace and zeal, earning the respect of opposing attorneys and clients, exemplifying foundational qualities that define an excellent trial lawyer.

“Winning cases for clients is obviously why we get hired, but I take the most pride in the teamwork and camaraderie that lead to the results,” says Barry.

In March 2017, he led a team of attorneys for client DynaEnergetics in a case in the Eastern District of Texas, widely considered as the most-patent-friendly jurisdiction in the country. After a four-day trial, his team obtained a complete defense verdict that repelled a patent and trademark suit brought by GEODynamics.

Herman is an intellectual property litigation partner who represents both domestic and foreign clients in a wide range of intellectual property matters, with an emphasis on patent litigation in district courts, the International Trade Commission, and the USPTO.

In the DynaEnergetics case he led a team of attorneys and staff from WBD and two other firms, plus a host of expert and fact witnesses. He instilled a level of teamwork which benefited all involved beyond the court decision. By allowing the younger attorneys to gain valuable experience in the courtroom, Barry assisted them in reaching their full potential. Two of the senior association on his team were promoted to partner.

Herman brings the same energy and commitment to community service. He serves as board chair for Boys Hope Girls Hope of Baltimore. BHGH works to break the cycle of poverty by nurturing students to be successful in school, graduate college and become outstanding citizens in the community.

He is a past chair of the Maryland State Bar Association’s IP Section.

For the past several years, he received the Best Lawyers in America award in his field. He had received the Order of the Coif upon graduation from the University of Maryland School of Law.
