Managing Partner and Global Co-Chair of Compliance and Governance Practice
DLA Piper
With reference to his long desire to work at the firm since high school, Brett Ingerman said his most significant professional accomplishment is his recent appointment as Managing Partner of DLA Piper’s Baltimore Office.
The trust and confidence Piper showed in choosing the 23-year employee as its leader is humbling and gratifying at the same time, he said. Ingerman expertly balances his litigation practice with a plethora of administrative duties, as well as responsibilities as global chairman of Piper’s Compliance and Governance Practice, which he helped launch and develop.
“Being a part of DLA Piper for more than two decades has given me several opportunities to positively affect my profession, community and society at large,” Ingerman said. “First and foremost, I am actively engaged with our firm’s training program, traveling the country to ensure that our young trial lawyers are fully prepared to litigate our clients’ most important matters.” He also serves on the DLA Piper Policy Committee since 2006.
A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law with honors, Ingerman began his career as a judicial clerk to Judge Glenn T. Harrell of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. He joined Piper as an associate in 1995. Brett is a driving force behind community services at Piper’s Baltimore office, which recently included compiling and distributing care packages to vulnerable citizens and hosting a carnival day camp for children with cancer.
He is the current board chair of the nonprofit CollegeBound, which provides last dollar grants and college access service to high school students, impacting hundreds of Baltimore children every year. As a member of the group for many years, Brett has served as a mentor for students through its College Completion Program. He is also on the Advisory Board for Harlem Lacrosse-Baltimore.
