A team of 29 attorneys, secretaries, IT and litigation support members from DLA Piper’s Baltimore office hosted the second annual Horizon Day Camp Carnival for 82 children July 20 at Maryvale Preparatory School in Lutherville.
The carnival was a fun and festive highlight of the Horizon Day Camp, which allows children battling cancer and their siblings to have a safe summer camp experience by providing a team of medical staff for campers and their families.
For the second year in a row, DLA Piper volunteers dressed up as cartoon characters, hosted sing-alongs for the campers and helped out with face painting at the carnival. The event included games, bounce houses, a pizza party and special guest appearances by the Oriole Bird and Elsa from “Frozen.”
The Horizon Day Camp Carnival is one of several community engagement initiatives the DLA Piper Baltimore Cares Committee has organized in the past two years, along with collecting holiday gifts for local children and gathering more than 300 care packages to donate this past winter. Firm employees also participate in the Horizon WALKS event, run holiday charity donation collections and distribute care packages to homeless people downtown.
