SunTrust Banks, Inc. announced Monday that Greg Farno has been named the Baltimore market president.

Farno moves over from a position as managing director in SunTrust Robinson Humphrey’s Corporate Banking Group, where he had responsibility for corporate and investment banking in the Maryland and Pennsylvania markets, based in Baltimore.

The bank said Sam DiPaola, the previous president, left to pursue other opportunities.

“Greg’s deep financial experience, combined with his local connections, makes him a strong candidate to succeed Sam and to propel growth for both our clients and for SunTrust,” Dan O’Neill, SunTrust’s mid-Atlantic division president, said in a statement. “Our approach of serving our clients with our full suite of capabilities is a differentiator, and no one is better positioned to deliver on that than Greg.”

Farno joined SunTrust in 2000, serving in various leadership roles in the Baltimore market on both the commercial and corporate banking sides. Before SunTrust, he worked for Bank of America. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College.

Farno’s local ties also extend to the community. He serves as a member of the executive committee of the B&O Railroad Museum and is on the board of directors of St. Ignatius Loyola Academy of Baltimore.

SunTrust is the region’s seventh-largest bank by deposits in Maryland, according to last year’s federal date. With more than $9.1 billion in deposits, it captured 6.4 percent of the market.

The bank is based in Atlanta.
