Fire destroyed the 150-year-old Budeke’s Paints store in Baltimore’s historic Fells Point neighborhood early Friday morning.
The four-alarm blaze gutted the building in the 400 block of South Broadway and destroyed a church building next door. The Baltimore Fire Department responded to the blaze at about 2:30 a.m., and firefighters sounded a fourth alarm after finding the property engulfed in flames.
“When firefighters arrived on the scene there was extreme fire and smoke conditions showing from two dwellings, one of which appears to be a paint company and the other of which appears to be a church,” Blair Skinner, a fire department spokeswoman, said.
Budeke’s Paints, according to the company’s website, dates back to 1868 when George H. Budeke opened the shop.
