Offit Kurman a finalist for 2018 BBB Torch Awards for Ethics

The Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland has selected Maple Lawn-based Offit Kurman as a finalist in the 2018 Torch Awards for Ethics, officials announced Tuesday.
The annual award honors Maryland-based organizations that demonstrate high standards of honesty and integrity and a commitment to advancing marketplace trust.
Other finalists this year include All-Pro Placement Service Inc.; Cheaper Than a Geek; Electronic Billing & Customer Support; Friedman, Framme & Thrush, P.A.; and Synchronicity Boutique.
The BBB Torch Awards for Ethics are open to private sector and nonprofit organizations of all sizes. To be eligible, an organization must have been in business for three years or more, have no outstanding financial obligations and possess a “B” rating or higher with the BBB.
Offit Kurman follows a rigorous set of ethical principles in every interaction with clients and attorneys within and outside the firm, and has developed several programs to promote ethical behavior in the legal profession.
The firm’s Legal Ethics Practice Group, for instance, works to uphold standards related to issues such as unfair competition, conflicts of interest, and attorney discipline.
Another example of the firm’s ethical commitment is Offit Kurman University (OKU), which offers online, interactive skill enhancement and professional growth courses for attorneys and support staff to increase efficiency and accountability. These programs complement Offit Kurman’s community involvement: over the past five years, the firm has also donated over $100,000 to charitable organizations such as the Chimes Foundation, Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland, the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the American Heart Association.
