Bryn ParchmanBryn Parchman

President and CEO
Port Discovery Children’s Museum

During Bryn Parchman’s 15-year tenure as president and CEO of Port Discovery Children’s Museum, it has been named one of the top 12 children’s museums in the country by Forbes and one of the top 10 by Fodor’s because of her commitment to helping the children and families in her communities.

“Passion for the potential of all children is what drives me,” she said. “Their success will determine the future of this city.”

The museum is trying to transform the lives of children through experiential learning — expanding the way they learn through innovative, interactive, playful and engaging experiences, she said.

“We celebrate our community’s diversity and provide a safe environment of inclusion and respect where all children, and the adults in their lives, can interact, play, learn and dare to dream big,” she said. “Our facility and offerings reach the most underserved children of Baltimore, providing them with learning opportunities more affluent parents often take for granted.”

In May, Parchman and the museum kicked off a $10.5 million capital campaign to update exhibits and programming. The museum is also ensuring access and offering programs for those with special needs, military families and schools; sending its programs into communities; and delivering traveling exhibitions throughout the state.

“Bryn recognizes that an urban children’s museum has a special responsibility to its community,” said Dennis F. Rasmussen, president of The Rasmussen Group in Towson and chairman of the museum’s board of directors. “Under her leadership, the museum has greatly expanded its outreach to families who will benefit most from the playful learning offered at the museum.”
