Laura C. Cannon
Laura C. Cannon began officiating weddings in 2003 as a side business, and by 2010, the business had grown into a small company. Its growth has continued, and this year, Ceremony Officiants has about 35 contractors in nine states.
“It took a lot of courage, perseverance and trust in my own instincts to not just follow the well laid-out career path and take the entrepreneurial leap, and I am so glad I did,” said Cannon, who is also the CEO of DJ Agency Services, which operates as MyDeejay.
Cannon said she is committed to inspiring change by coaching entrepreneurs and executives. “They were coming to me for guidance because they saw that I was able to be successful and balanced in my life.” She has written a book, “The Conscious Entrepreneur: A Guide to Maximizing Your Potential for Success, Freedom, and Happiness.”
Cannon also mentors sophomores at Howard Community College on their career paths. “Mentoring potential ‘wantrepreneurs,’ as they are called, is such a joy for me,” she said. “I wish I had a mentor when I started on the trackless path of entrepreneurship.”
