Director of Special Projects
Baltimore City, Dept. of Housing and Community Development
Chichi Nyagah-Nash took the time to read every performance evaluation, every six months, for all 250 employees in her division of Baltimore City government.
The then-deputy chief in fleet management would handwrite notes to about 40 people who had excelled that year. After several years, she noticed that people took more pride in what they did and how they did it.
This is just one way that Nyagah-Nash showed employees that she valued accountability and acknowledged all the effort they put in daily.
In August, she started a new role as director of special projects in Housing and Community Development. There, she will help ensure access to adequate and affordable housing opportunities in safe, livable neighborhoods.
She is president of Friends of Great Kids Farm and on the advisory board of Business Volunteers Maryland. She seeks out opportunities to give back to a community she has adopted as her own since emigrating from Kenya when she was 19.
“Chichi devotes much of her ‘free’ time to helping others, engaging in her community and being relentless in the pursuit of positive change,” former supervisor and friend Peter Collier said.
