SHIFT Ventures and Conscious Venture Lab (CVL) hosted Demo Day 4: A Challenge for More Resilient Cities Jan. 9 to give six rising companies with socially responsible missions the chance to pitch ideas and reveal new company developments in front of local and national investors, entrepreneurs and thought leaders.
More than 130 people turned out at the Stavros Niarchos Parkway Theater in Baltimore to network and observe pitches from CoAuthor, Komehsa Essentials, Optikal Contact Care Inc., Ortus Academy, R3 Score and TruDiary – they are the second group of companies to graduate from the CVL space in west Baltimore – and five were founded by minority females.
The pitch review panelists included Demian Costa, managing director of Sagamore Ventures; Deb Tillett, CEO of the Emerging Technology Center; and George Davis, CEO of TEDCO.
The event kicked off with a panel, “Social Impact and the New Narrative of Business” with Tim Shirk, managing director Ritchie Family Office — Fox River Partners; Ahmad Ashkar, CEO of the Hult Prize Foundation; and Brendan Dougherty, Founder of Forbes Impact. Attendees also heard from dynamic speakers including Jeff Cherry, CEO of SHIFT Ventures and CVL founder; Joe Mechlinksi, CEO of SHIFT and general partner of SHIFT Ventures; and Evan Lutz, a 2015 graduate of the CVL program and CEO of Hungry Harvest.
