George Davis is working every day to create a thriving Maryland “innovation ecosystem.”
As CEO of TEDCO, Davis provides resources and connections for early-stage technology and life sciences companies in Maryland. He joined TEDCO in June 2017.
“Building strong relationships with all of the innovation ecosystem constituencies and leveraging the unprecedented footprint and pedigree of the state’s academic research facilities is paramount to our success,” Davis said.
Nicknamed an “entrepreneur’s entrepreneur,” Davis spent more than three decades in the private sector, where he invested and helped build and manage companies in the biotech, IT and software industries, including Northrop Grumman Corporation, Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Aether Systems.
At TEDCO, Davis believes inclusion for underserved and more diverse entrepreneurs in the early investment stage is important to help ensure all entrepreneurs have an opportunity to succeed. Gov. Larry Hogan’s proposed budget includes first-time funding of $1 million to expand the Builder Fund for those startups.
“What I see, and what I’ve seen the last couple of years traveling across Maryland: Innovation, entrepreneurship is very inclusive, but opportunity has been very exclusive, and we need to take the lead on changing that,” Davis told a Maryland Senate committee in February.
