The Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers is no more. The organization announced Monday that it would change its name to Maryland Philanthropy Network as part of a rebrand.

In a news release, ABAG announced that its mission and work  was no longer best represented by the existing name and that suggestions from focus groups, stakeholders and members contributed to the decision.

“The new name more strongly reflects its statewide membership as well as its statewide voice on issues and policies affecting communities across Maryland,” said Celeste Amato, the network’s president.

Founded in 1983, the organization represents over 130 organizations across Maryland and aims to improve communities through educational programs and community partnerships.

Some of the organization’s focus areas include homelessness, health and education.
