Matthew A.S. Esworthy

Partner
Bowie & Jensen LLC

Matthew A.S. EsworthyMatthew A.S. Esworthy recently started his third year as a partner with Bowie & Jensen LLC, where he has developed a practice that blends cybersecurity, commercial litigation, and white-collar criminal defense.

“My practice gives me the freedom to take on cases of those deserving clients who can’t afford representation but desperately need it,” said Esworthy, a 2001 graduate of the Dickinson School of Law at Pennsylvania State University. “Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work on a wide variety of cases in these areas and learned that the skill set needed to be effective is largely the same.

“Working at Bowie & Jensen has given me the opportunity to delve deeper into these areas, knowing that I have teammates at the top of their game in the areas of business transactions, corporate, tax, banking, commercial litigation, employment law, intellectual property, technology law and cyber ready to pitch in.”

Esworthy has been on the board of directors and advisory board for Civic Works of Baltimore, where he helped at-risk youths develop trades. He is also a board member and general counsel for the Clarence H. “Du” Burns Memorial Fund.

“I believe there is no greater calling than to serve others,” he said. “I know that investing even just a little bit of time can change another person’s life forever.”

Esworthy’s father died when he was 5 years old, and he credits his mother and a series of mentors with helping him to succeed as a lawyer.

“I will always remember the kindness of those that gave their time, advice and friendship,” he said. “Benefiting as I have, I couldn’t imagine turning down a request for assistance. A word of encouragement, a kind ear or making a key introduction takes so little, but can make all the difference to a law student or young lawyer.”
