Path to Excellence nonprofit partner spotlight: AileyCamp

At each Path to Excellence networking event attendees are asked to bring donations for a nonprofit partner. The nonprofit partner at the June 17, 2019 event at Towson University is AileyCamp. The following is a brief description about AileyCamp.

AileyCampAileyCamp is an innovative summer program for youth, ages 11-14, that uses disciplined dance training, creative writing instruction, personal development, and communication workshops, to help campers develop a respect for themselves and others that meaningfully impacts their lives.

Alvin Ailey believed that “dance is for everybody,” and was especially dedicated to using dance to enhance the lives of underserved children. AileyCamp represents a vital continuation of Alvin Ailey’s vision, using the power of dance to enrich and positively alter the lives of children. Conceived by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and run locally by Towson University, AileyCamp combines professional level dance training with personal development activities. Now in its 6th year at Towson University, AileyCamp Baltimore has partnered with Baltimore City Public Schools to offer camp through BCPSS’s Summer Learning program. All campers will be from Title I Baltimore City Public Schools. The six-week camp will take place in the summer of 2019 from July 8-August 16.

Since its inception in 1989, this vital program has reached thousands of youth across the country, providing direction and hope to children who are most in need of knowing there can be a bright future. Currently there are 10 AileyCamps across the United States: Atlanta, Baltimore, Berkeley/Oakland, CA, Chicago, Kansas City, KS, Kansas City, MO, Miami, Newark, NJ, New York and Seattle.

Donation requests: breakfast/granola bars any kind, single serving cereal cups, PopTarts, or gift cards to any supermarket. We appreciate your contributions!
